Off grid sites

Off-grid sites are mostly present in developing countries. In these regions, most people living in urban areas have access to the electricity grid, but in more rural areas, the majority of the population has unreliable grid access (at least 4 to 6 hours outage per day) or no access at all in very remote rural communities.

It is estimated that around 1.6 billion people live beyond the electricity grid. South Asia has the largest off-grid population in the world with 614 million people or around 40% of the population.

Business critical applications are of course exposed to this unreliable grid.

Up until recently, the lack of stable grid has driven the deployment of diesel generators for primary and backup power. On average, an individual off-grid site will generate diesel costs of over 20.000 USD a year.

Our challenge is to come up with an easier, cost effective and environmentally friendly way to secure these critical applications in these rural areas.
