Copenhagen Airport: securing critical power for 32 million passengers
Overview
Copenhagen Airport (CPH) is one of Northern Europe’s major international hubs, handling approximately 32 million passengers per year. Ensuring uninterrupted power across terminals, runways, and critical systems is essential to maintain safety and operational continuity.
Challenge
Operating across a large and complex infrastructure (11 km²), the airport faced several challenges:
- Maintaining continuous power for all critical loads
- Managing long electrical distances across terminals and runways
- Addressing grid imbalance issues impacting utility stability
- Optimising space in constrained technical environments
- Ensuring fast and reliable maintenance without operational disruption
Solution
CE+T Power deployed a decentralised UPS architecture based on the Flexa UPS, specifically designed to support large-scale infrastructure:
- Over 100 Flexa systems deployed
- Around 300 power modules installed across the airport
- Additional deployment of Sierra 25 systems for smaller loads
The decentralised approach ensures power is delivered closer to the loads, improving both efficiency and reliability.
The system is supported through a structured local maintenance organisation, combining on-site expertise and rapid-response support to ensure high availability and long-term reliability.
Key results
- Highly resilient system with no single point of failure
- Improved grid balance and stability
- Easy maintenance with hot-swappable modules
Why CE+T
The solution was selected and remains in operation due to:
- Compact footprint: critical in space-constrained environments
- High short-circuit capability: essential for long cable runs
- Hot-swappable modular design: ensuring zero downtime
- Battery testing capability
- No licensing constraints enabling full customer autonomy
- Proven long-term product stability: installed for more than 10 years
