Power Supply for Telecom Applications
In today’s telecom networks, the volume of critical active equipment running on AC is increasing and it does bring some challenges to organizations that are historically DC oriented.
Whenever the ratio between DC and AC equipment is in favour of DC, power solutions such as modular inverters allow for leveraging the existing DC infrastructures while securing the AC loads.
Installing independent AC backup solutions with lower than expected total cost of ownership (TCO) will be the solution when the DC Vs AC ratio turns in favour of AC.
Also, in many parts of the world, telecom equipment cannot be linked to an existing utility grid and have to rely on local power plants (GenSet, Photovoltaics, Windmills, …), off-grid powering solutions can help operators lower their operating expenses.
Even some DC running active equipment (such as DSLAM) are nowadays critical and their power supply should be secured. Feeding these applications through the existing copper pair network will help avoiding the roll-out of a geographically spread AC infrastructure.
